Airplanes have various different statistics, but here are the ones you should be paying much attention to when you're new to the game. For long routes, speed does make a big difference, since most of the flight is spent at cruise level. == Buying Used Aircraft ==

Airline Mogul also has a used market, where airlines can sell and lease their old or redundant aircraft. You can navigate there by going to ''Aircraft Market''. The Used Market lists all planes in two categories: Aircraft Sales and [[Lease Aircraft|Aircraft Leases]]. The lists are sorted by name, but it is possible to sort by different data, or search for anything. 
By purchasing a used aircraft, you get the aircraft right away without any delivery time.

When you've found the aircraft you like, you can buy or lease it by clicking ''Buy'' or ''Lease'' next to the aircraft. The specified amount of money will be deducted from your bank account, and transferred to the original owner of the aircraft.

With used aircraft, you won't have to put up with a delivery time. However, there may be a premium mark-up to the price above the original new price of the aircraft.

== Buying Aircraft from Brokers ==

Airline Mogul has appointed [[Brokers|official brokers]], which are tasked with leasing and selling of aircraft. More often than not, you will see a post on the in-game forum with information about their prices. The brokers will take your orders, and supply you with the aircraft you want, for a lower price than normal. Loadfactor is the metric you use to see how full your flights are. It is basically the percentage of seats filled out of all the seats for sale. 
If you fly an aircraft with 100 seats once per day on a route, but only sell 50 of those seats, your loadfactor is 50 %. If you sell 98 of those seats, then your loadfactor is 98 %.

In Airline Mogul it is desirable to have a loadfactor of as close to 100% as possible. It is usually accomplished by lowering ticket prices on routes with loadfactors below 100 %. 
If a competitor lowers their prices, your loadfactor might change, too. If a competitor leaves a route, your loadfactor does not change until you [[Edit Route|edit the route]] again.

To upload a logo it must fulfill the following requirements
* Not wider than 300 pixels

After successfully uploading a logo, you will be able to see it on your airlines page. 
To replace a logo, simply upload a new logo. You might need to force-refresh (Shift + F5) the view airline page for the new logo to appear.

Hotswap is when you replace one route with another without closing it, or when you replace all routes of an aircraft with another aircraft. 
When you close a route and create it again, you will lose the passenger bonus earned by having the route operating for a long time. By hotswapping, the route stays open, but you swap the aircraft.

== Hotswap Route ==

To hotswap an individual route, you can click on the [[File:Icon hotswap.png]] icon in the route list, or on the 'Swap Aircraft' button when viewing an aircraft. It will open in the same window or tab. 
After clicking, you will be brought to the normal [[Create Route|create route]] page where you can select the new aircraft, the price, and everything else as when [[Edit Route|editing a route]]. 
If the aircraft previously flying on the route has enough time left to fly the route, it will be marked orange when selecting an aircraft to distinguish it from other aircraft.

== Hotswap Aircraft ==

If you want to move all routes flown by one aircraft to another aircraft, then you can swap them easily. Go to [[View Aircraft]] and find the aircraft on the list you want to swap. Select the checkboxes for those aircraft and click on 'Swap Aircraft' in the bottom of the list.
* You must make sure all routes can be within range of the new aircraft
* You must make sure all routes can be flown by the new aircraft within 24 hours
* You must select the same amount of old aircraft to be retired as you select new aircraft to replace.

After clicking 'Swap Aircraft' the system will try its best to transfer all the routes and scheduled maintenance to the new aircraft. If it encounters an error, it will stop and display an error message. 
Possible errors could be:
* The aircraft selected to replace does not have enough range to fly some or all of the routes.
* The aircraft selected to replace does not have enough time to schedule all routes (it's too slow or has too long a [[Aircraft_Data#Turn_time|turn time]])
* The number aircraft selected to replace do not match the number of aircraft to be replaced

Leasing aircraft is a quick way to get more aircraft in your fleet without having to pay the full price of the aircraft. Leasing an aircraft costs you a monthly fee.

== Leasing an Aircraft from the Market ==

To find an aircraft you can lease, you must go to the [[Aircraft Market]]. Aircraft for lease have their own section. When choosing an aircraft it is important to note the monthly fees, the lease type and the length of the lease. The monthly leasing fee can be divided by 24 to get the daily cost of lease. The length of the lease (Lease Time) is the number of game months the aircraft will be available for you after accepting the aircraft. It is always possible to return an aircraft ahead of time with no penalty.

To lease out an aircraft to another airline, you have to view the [[View_Aircraft|aircraft]] (go to 'Aircraft', then 'View Aircraft' and then click on [[File:Icon_zoomac.png]]). Make sure all routes are closed and no maintenance is scheduled. 
On the right side, click on 'Lease Aircraft', then select the airline to receive the offer (leave blank for a public listing), duration, and price. 
After you place the aircraft on the market, the receiving airline will be able to accept the offer. 
* '''Lease to''': Leave empty or write ''Public Lease'' for a public offer. Write an airline name for a private offer.
* '''Lease Time''': The number of months the aircraft will be leased out. The time starts counting when an airline accepts the lease.
* '''Monthly Rate''': The monthly rate of the lease. This needs to cover acquisition costs and your maintenance costs.

While the aircraft is offered on the market, you can change the three parameters, but not if the lease has been accepted by an airline.

The price range is calculated based on the value of the aircraft such that you never can put a price lower than 50% of the value and never higher than 133% of the value. Value decreases over time, so these limits change too.

To sell one aircraft only, go to the aircraft's page and click on 'Sell Aircraft' at the right. You will get presented with the aircraft's value and the price range you can use. If you want to sell the aircraft to a specific player (Private Sale), enter the players ID number in the box labelled 'Sell to'. If you want to make the sale publicly available, just enter 0 or leave the field blank. 
Now you enter the price you want to charge for the aircraft. Make sure it is within the price limits (between -50% and 133% of value).
When you click 'Put for sale', you will be greeted by a confirmation. You can now go to the [[Aircraft Market|aircraft market]] to see your sale.

To sell more than one aircraft at once, you can use the mass-sell aircraft feature. 
Find it by going to 'Aircraft' -> 'Mass-Sell Aircraft' in the top menu. 
Of the aircraft presented on the list, select the ones you want to sell by checking the check-boxes on the right of the list. At the bottom of the list there are two input fields. If you want to sell the aircraft to a specific player (Private Sale), enter the players ID number in the box labelled 'Sell to'. If you want to make the sale publicly available, just enter 0 or leave the field blank. 
The next field is the price setting. Set the price as percentage of aircraft value, then click on 'Proceed'. The list is now updated with only the selected aircraft, and the price they would have when put on the market. The aircraft are not put for sale yet. 
You can now repeat the process until you have reached a satisfying price. This time, instead of clicking on 'Proceed', you click on 'Sell Aircraft'. A confirmation message will show telling you the aircraft have been put on the [[Aircraft Market|aircraft market]]. 

== Editing an Offer ==

To change the price or availability of an aircraft on the market, you first go to the aircraft market. By clicking on 'Aircraft offered for Sale or Lease' you will be presented with a list of all the aircraft you currently have on the market. To the right of each aircraft on the list, you have three options: modify the sale, remove the sale, or check the check box. If you choose to modify the sale, you will be presented with the same page as when selling a single aircraft.

If you check the check boxes, you can mass-edit or mass-remove the sales at the bottom of the list. By selecting 'Modify Sale' below the list, the selected aircraft will appear on their own list. There you can edit the price and ID of the user you want to sell to. If you want the offer to be publicly available, just type in '0' or leave the field empty. When done, just press 'Update Info'. 
If you would rather remove the aircraft from sale than just edit them, just press the 'Remove from Sale' button at the bottom of the list. You will now have to confirm the removal of the selected aircraft.

To remove an aircraft completely from the market, simply press 'Remove' and confirm your choice.

For long routes, speed does make a big difference, since most of the flight is spent at cruise level. For shorter routes though, much time is spent in other phases of flight, thus speed makes little difference on short flights. Keep the mission type in mind when choosing how fast your aircraft should be.

This is the maximum route length the aircraft can fly. Fuel usage and price is somewhat dependent on it, so don't get aircraft with more range than you need.

Large aircraft can earn a lot of money on the right routes, but are not suitable for smaller routes. Larger aircraft cost more money to buy and operate.

Due to technological advances over time, more modern aircraft will use less fuel than similar, but older, aircraft. It makes very little sense to fly aircraft from the 60ies several decades later. 
Fuel consumption is influenced by aircraft size, speed, and engine type (turbojet, turbofan, turboprop, and piston)

== Buying New Aircraft ==

By purchasing new aircraft directly from the manufacturer, you will be able to select exactly the aircraft for your needs. You can buy an aircraft from the manufacturer list on the Aircraft main page, or by using [[Aircraft Search]]. New aircraft take time to build, so delivery times can vary from 24 game days for small airplanes, up to 268 days for large aircraft like the Boeing 747-400.

To buy a new plane, first you need to navigate to the Aircraft page. Then select a manufacturer under the "Purchase Aircraft" section. After you have clicked ''Select'', you will see a list of all planes made by that manufacturer. Planes are sorted by name first, but you can sort using different data by clicking on anyone of the gray headers (for instance ''Seats''). Once you've found the desired aircraft, click ''Buy'' next to that aircraft's data. This will navigate you to the next page, where you can select which engines you want.

== Buying Used Aircraft ==

Airline Mogul also has a used market, where airlines can sell and lease their old or redundant aircraft. You can navigate there by going to ''Aircraft Market''. The Used Market lists all planes in two categories: Aircraft Sales and [[Lease Aircraft|Aircraft Leases]]. The lists are sorted by name, but it is possible to sort by different data, or search for anything. 
By purchasing a used aircraft, you get the aircraft right away without any delivery time.

When you've found the aircraft you like, you can buy or lease it by clicking ''Buy'' or ''Lease'' next to the aircraft. The specified amount of money will be deducted from your bank account, and transferred to the original owner of the aircraft.

With used aircraft, you won't have to put up with a delivery time. However, there may be a premium mark-up to the price above the original new price of the aircraft.

== Buying Aircraft from Brokers ==

Airline Mogul has appointed [[Brokers|official brokers]], which are tasked with leasing and selling of aircraft. More often than not, you will see a post on the in-game forum with information about their prices. The brokers will take your orders, and supply you with the aircraft you want, for a lower price than normal. == What is Airline Mogul? ==

Airline Mogul is an internet browser game, based on other games of a similar aviation theme. It allows a person to create and manage an airline in a large multiplayer environment over the internet. Players can play in either publicly auto generated worlds, or in private worlds. Private worlds allow players to play on their own or with others using the time period and geographic region of their chosing. Worlds can run from 12 real days (one game year) up to 2 real years panning the start of Commercial Aviation in the early 1900s to the present day.

== Brief History ==

Airline Mogul was created in October 2005 by Stephen Murphy and Kevin Denny. Initially there was a public forum setup for idea generation and feature selection. This continued until the new Airline Mogul forums were created on netsoc.dit.ie with the first version hosted on this server also.

The first version was a slow start, working through the user area, gates, aircraft and create route. The first ever website design was actually a black and grey one, with a totally different logo. But when a new logo was submitted a new concept with a white website was created. Initially there was a small community involved in Airline Mogul, totaling around 75 players. Login and Registration opened for the first round on Christmas Eve (December 24th) 2005. From there Airline Mogul continued with a variant of the current website design to add new features such as aircraft leasing, something that wasn't too common in the games of the time (Project AirWave and ClearSkies were some of them).

By the summer of 2006, the game's interest had waned a little, with slow development progress and a mature round the game was losing pace. At the end of the summer, new features and fixes were added--including a re-vamped create and edit route to replace a previously bugged version. Despite a set of fresh scripts, there were continued issues with the loadfactor algorithm.

The game developed further in line with developer's skills. A [[Finance]] page was added, allowing players to see how much money they were making every month. This addition was coupled with a cash flow log ([[Operations Dept]]) for a complete itemized breakdown of costs and transactions of each airline. The cash flow logs were the start of a revamp of most pages on the website, with a fresh look to the tables and improved formatting it acted like a template for the rest of the site.

==New design==
On the 4th of October 2008 a new era in AM started when another new design was launched bringing it into the 21st century. This new design has also brought two major new features: [[Private World]]s and a new [[Aircraft Market]]. The addition of [[Private World]]'s was a big change for the game, it still remains one of the few online airline games that offers fully customizable worlds for players to create. These new features fueled the growth of the game as large numbers of new players joined the game.

== Registration ==

All aircraft are automatically registered in your country of operations (where you opened your first base). When you buy used aircraft, you can re-register them when buying them, or at any point in time afterwards. It is free to register an aircraft.

== Name ==

You can name aircraft anything, the aircraft will keep their names even if you scrap them or sell them on the used [[Aircraft Market]].

== Aircraft name ==

The name given by the manufacturer (e.g. Boeing 737-300, Dornier 328 Jet). To the game it does not make any difference what the name is, but due to brand recognition, some players do prefer a certain manufacturer or a certain type of plane, regardless of their performance in-game.

== Seats ==

The maximum capacity of the aircraft. In Airline Mogul this is usually determined by the certified maximum capacity configuration (i.e. all Economy class seats). 
An aircraft with more seats lets you sell more tickets on a route. Routes between large airports can handle very big aircraft, while smaller routes can't. Larger aircraft typically cost more, have longer turn time, and higher fuel costs than similar planes with fewer seats.

Note that when researching routes, distances are displayed to the nearest 1 mile, while aircraft range is exact. A city pair of 3000 miles may actually be 3000.1 miles, meaning an aircraft with a range of 3000(.0) miles cannot fly the route.

== Withdrawn ==

The last year of production. In Airline Mogul, we like to imagine things, which is why all aircraft models have a minimum production run of 20 years. Some aircraft models have been produced for longer in the real world, which is reflected in the game (e.g. Airbus A320). 
The manufacturer stops taking orders after the 24th of December of the withdrawing year. If you would like that aircraft, be sure to order it before the year is over.

== Cockpit Crew ==

The number of pilots, navigators, and radio operators needed to fly the aircraft. Cockpit crew cost money when the aircraft is flying. For longer flights a backup crew needs to be carried, which will increase costs. Keep this in mind when comparing similar aircraft.

The number of flight attendants needed. Usually one for every 50 passengers, regardless of actual load.

The time it takes for an aircraft to be ready to depart again after a flight. This time is included in the block time when calculating and creating a route. 
Turn time it is the time needed to unload passengers/baggage, clean up, and then load the aircraft again. The turn time data is in hours and is deducted from the time available for use when routes are assigned. This number is currently directly associated with the amount of seats on the aircraft.

If you have spare gates, you can return them on the [[View Gates]]-page. Gates that you have rented, but aren't used, will still cost you money, so it might be a wise decision to return them.

Please note that you can only return gates if '''all the ten slots''' for that gate are available.

== Return Gates ==

Navigate to the [[View Gates]] area first (''Gates'', then click ''View Gates''). This will give you an overview of all the gates in your possession. If there are airports where more than 10 slots are available, a checkbox will appear next to that airport. Click the checkboxes of the airport (or airports) you want to return gates at, and once you're done, click the ''Return'' button on the bottom of the list.

Now, for each airport you selected, choose the number of gates you want to return. The dropdown menu's will only allow you to choose the maximum amount of returnable gates, so don't be afraid you'll return too many. When you're done for all airports, click the ''Return'' button again to confirm your selections and return the gates.

Note: You will not be refunded any paid rent, even if you just rent a gate for a few minutes (whether intentionally or accidentally), so be wise in your decisions!

The Operations Department is where you will see more detailed records of all financial transactions of your airline.

The left-hand column will show detailed records and the right-hand column will have summaries of all incomes and expenses. The default view is revenue from ticket prices (i.e., the sum of all route profits).

Clicking on any of the [[Image:Icon zoom.png]] icons will show detailed records of that particular row. You will see detailed daily records for the most recent three months and monthly records for older records.

Are you interested in how your airline is faring compared to the others? If so, click on the "Reports" button at the top. There are four types of rankings in AM: Global Airline Rankings, Continent Rankings, Aircraft Rankings, and Alliance Rankings.

== Airline Rankings ==

This is the default page of rankings. Here you can see the ranking of all airlines listed according to their value. The list can also be ordered by daily passengers, average [[Loadfactor|loadfactor]], and fleet size. 
The airline value is the the net worth of the airline, which is calculated based on cash and the book values of the aircraft the airline owns.

Clicking on the name of a airline will open the details of the airline. It includes the details of their fleet, the alliance the airline is in (if any), a list of gates, a route map, and some statistics (number of routes and destinations, base continent, among others) of the airline. From there, you could click on the airport codes to view the detail of the airports the airline is operating in or click on the aircraft model to view the rankings of that specific aircraft.

=== Inactive Airlines ===

If a player has not logged in for three weeks, their airline is flagged as inactive. This will remove them from the rankings, but their airline will continue to operate as usual.

== Continent Rankings ==

Airline Ranking by Continent is the second selection on the rankings page. It enables you to see what rank different airlines are in their [[Gates#Focus_City|home continent]]. Once in your desired continent page, the same features are available from the [[Rankings#Airline Rankings|Rankings]] page. In most worlds, airlines are allowed to have one or more focus cities outside their home continent. The airline will still only appear in the rankings of their home continent.

== Alliance Rankings ==

This is the fourth selection in the rankings page. You can check the ranking of your [[Alliance|alliance]] here. They are listed by total net worth in descending order.

== Aircraft Rankings ==

Aircraft Rankings is the third selection on the rankings page. Here you can see the types of aircraft ranked by the total number currently in-service throughout the game. This ranking is useful as higher aircraft popularity may be an indication of profitability, assuming you trust other owners to maximize profits. Scrapped aircraft are removed from the list.

After clicking on an aircraft name, you will be presented by a page with more details and an image of the aircraft. It is possible to see some basic information about the aircraft, which airlines operate it in their fleet, and how many are on order.
